Unique Skills:
Must Be able to attend the Savannah Technical College Aircraft Upholstery and Trim class starting 18 August 2025 and complete the program.
Must be able to commit and successfully enroll in the Aircraft Upholstery and Trim program at Savannah Technical College, and maintain academic status throughout the length of the program (2-3 months). Must be able to complete the course successfully.
Must have a positive attitude, attention to detail, and willingness to learn.
The Aircraft upholstery and trim program will provide introductory level technical training for individuals seeking employment in outfitting and refurbishing large business jet aircraft. Classroom topics include introduction to business aircraft, blueprints, & electronic models, engineering documentation, and shop/ramp safety. Lab demonstrations and projects include fabrication of seating, upholstery, flooring, side panels, overhead panels and trim.
Education and Experience Requirements
High School Diploma or GED required. Entry level position.
Position Purpose:
The Apprentice Upholstery Tech works along side higher level employees to fabricate and install upholstery, cover panels, and make simple patterns for aircraft interiors using design/engineering drawings and aircraft specifications. The Apprentice will participate in a two-year program in order to develop the skills necessary to perform as a fully proficient Upholstery Technician. This position is limited to only Completions Seat Shop departments.
Job Description
Principle Duties and Responsibilities:
Essential Functions:
1. Perform technical upholstery functions within design, customer, FAA, and Gulfstream specifications. Specific installation and trim tasks are to be completed in compliance with work order instructions and specifications. .
2. Fit panels and windows, cabin head liners, upper sidewalls, lower side panels, hatch panels, windows, cut and surge carpets, cover bulkheads, fabricate various metal parts, and covering and installation of panels. .
3. Create carpet patterns per design drawings and complete installation. .
4. Use the material tracking system to create parts demand, track squawks and to sign-off work.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Other Requirements:
1. Ability to read, write, speak and understand the English Language.
2. Ability to read and interpret blueprints and engineering documentation.
3. Ability to use measuring tools and perform basic math computations.
4. Must be computer literate.
5. Able to climb ladders and stairs, work in small restricted areas, lift up to 40 pounds and work any shift.
