Principal Duties and Responsibilities
 
Human Factors Engineering applies structured quantitative and subjective experimental methods to generate requirements that ensure designs meet the limitations of human performance and optimize usability, maintainability, and manufacturability of aircraft systems. 
 
On any given day, you may:
  • Perform trade studies on system design concepts and present human factors requirement recommendations to multidisciplinary design teams.
  • Assist in the design of part task simulation evaluations for detailed design requirement definition using software and physical mockups, or predictive modeling tools.
  • Work with a Human Factors Engineer to provide project recommendations in selecting and applying appropriate anthropometric modeling tools to design concept analysis.
  • Apply appropriate data analysis methods (descriptive or inferential statistics).
  • Assist in the preparation, development, and execution of part task and/or simulator plans that utilize data measurement techniques such as rating scales, questionnaires, and performance measurement calculation.
  • Document evaluations in final engineering reports.
  • Assist with validation and verification of requirements.
  • Utilize industry and/or regulatory committee design guidance and/or regulations to support design aspects.
 
Required Skills and Abilities
  • Experience with basic research methods and use of human subjects in evaluations and experiments.
  • Ability to convey technical and non-technical concepts clearly and succinctly in both written and verbal formats.
 
Preferred Skills and Abilities
  • Aviation/aerospace experience
  • Experience with advanced task analysis methods
  • Experience with biomechanics and time study theories
  • Experience with sensation and perception research
  • Experience with simulation software (e.g., CATIA V5 Human Builder, 3DSSPP, iData)
  • Experience with requirements management tools (e.g., DOORS)
  • Experience with Lean Six Sigma philosophies
  • Flying experience (e.g., PPL, CPL, ATP)
 
Education and Experience Desired:
  • Majors: Aerospace Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, Computer Science, Industrial Engineering, Industrial & System Engineering, Human Factors
  • Psychology for MS or PhD if engineering undergrad
  • Psychology for BS if engineering courses taken

    1. Enrolled as a full-time student at time of application, actively pursuing a bachelor’s degree or above.
    2. Complete their freshman year by the time the internship starts.
    3. Cumulative GPA of 3.0 (without rounding); must be listed on resume.
    4. Minimum 12-14 week requirement (summer); 14-16 week requirement (spring and fall).
    5. Must be onsite; this is not a remote position.
    6. Must have reliable transportation.
