Lab Test Manufacturing Engineer - E - III in  GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

Position Purpose

Work with Lab Test Design (Mech, Instrumentation & Elec) Engineering and the Lab Test Operations teams to support the lab builds and lab changes through the lifecycle of the Lab Test Articles. Work with the teams to provide appropriate methods and tools to produce work instructions that can be followed and maintained. Also, work with the Lab Materials team or the Lab fabrication team for parts to be created/assembled.

  • Experience with Catia, Solumina, Smarteam and SAP
  • SBM

 

This engineer will work with the Lab Engineers, Project Engineers, and Operations to:

  • Implement and oversee major projects (lab builds) from the manufacturing perspective
    • Methods and tools to produce work instructions for Lab builds using Solumina, SBM or any other MES system
    • Define structure and guidelines for tooling and manufacturability standards
      • What can be built in bulk or need special vendors
      • What should be manufactured in house
      • What min requirements should be followed, to ensure configuration as design and as built
  • Communicate with other parts of the organization to ensure consistency on the utilization of tools and supporting quality with maintaining quality standards and policies on process and products
  • This engineer will work with Mechanical Engineering and Electrical Engineering teams:
    • Perform manufacturability assessment of engineering data
    • Analyze future requirements
  • Support firsthand the data for configuration as design (work with the Configuration Specialist)
    • This will be use on the Baseline Configuration
  • Supports the fabrication teams to generate flat patterns, models, NC data, V4 knowledge etc.
  • Ensure quality standards are followed on the engineering data and support the implementation of improved methods to improve quality and cost

 

This role will also be responsible for the following:

  • Perform (or assist with) make-or buy decisions of parts and assemblies
  • Create (or assist creating) work instructions for assemblies requiring a high level of accuracy, while considering efficiency, manufacturability, and safety.
  • Provide technical direction to both design teams (eBOM configuration, DFM, etc) and production teams (priorities, assembly techniques, etc.) as necessary to reach labs goals
  • Act as liaison between the engineering, fabrication, and operation groups to ensure design and build integrity.
  • As necessary, assist with operations and material manager with budgeting and scheduling.
  • Assist with the flow of eBOM to preplan with minimum risks, including assisting in the integration of LRUs data of receiving and assemble to reduce impact on schedule.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical, Manufacturing Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 4 years manufacturing engineering, planning, or related technical experience.

Position Purpose:

Work/Lead independently to prepare, conduct, and evaluate analyses for planning improvements and problem solving for manufacturing issues (production methods and procedures) in a specific function (including layout, production flow, tooling and production equipment, material fabrication, assembly methods and planning) in a Production or Post-Production environment.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  1. Perform technical studies of complex nature, conduct analysis of operations (existing or proposed). Prepare a report of recommendations for equipment needed and correct methods of manufacturing (including sequence of operations and detailed methodology of complex assemblies and installations as well as detail components).
  2. Author detailed work instructions that optimize manufacturing process efficiency and opportunity for zero defects with functional Operations Engineer.
  3. Author DRDI/DMT rework instructions to support effective corrective actions.
  4. Author MBOM in SAP/Solumina/Corridor (as applicable) to ensure all parts defined by Engineering are installed during the assembly/installation process.
  5. Generate make-or-buy proposals and recommend corrective actions for areas of responsibility; evaluate vendors, attend vendor negotiations, and assist in resolving problems.
  6. Conduct research, investigation, and analysis in connection with assigned planning or other assigned projects, to ensure conformance to requirements.
  7. Investigate and assist in preparing justification for equipment and facility requests.
  8. Perform productibility studies from engineering drawings.
  9. Apply statistical methods to estimate future Manufacturing requirements; make necessary computer inputs and generate data or reports as needed.
  10. Prioritize workloads based on schedules and needs; provide completion dates and work estimates based on available resources, past performance schedules, etc.
  11. Keep current on state-of-the-art manufacturing developments.
  12. Incorporate Lean Manufacturing Methodology into existing and future processes.
  13. Develop business case and present to management for process improvement approval.
  14. Assume the duties of the ME Group Head in his/her absence.
  15. Assign and review work of subordinate personnel.
  16. Supervise and train subordinates in work methods and procedures in the efficient and effective use of company resources to resolve work-related or quality problems.
  17. Lead/coordinate the implementation of projects between multiple orgs.
  18. Apply Lean and Six Sigma principles to manufacturing methods as a team member/leader.
  19. Support all Safety, Sustainability and Ergonomic Initiatives. .

Additional Functions:
  1. Ensure quality policies are being practiced; make recommendations to improve quality. .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:
  1. Proven knowledge and understanding of Lean and/or Six Sigma principles and processes. .
  2. Knowledgeable of Engineering configuration requirements, tooling, quality control, plant safety, blueprint reading, and shop math.
  3. Ability to operate computerized equipment, such as personal computers, CADAM, CATIA, Solumina, SAP, Corridor.
  4. Complete understanding and experience implementing Lean Manufacturing Concepts: 5S, JIT, SMED, KanBan, VSM, One Piece Flow, etc.
  5. Working knowledge of Six-Sigma or other data-driven decision making experience highly desirable.
  6. Lean Six-Sigma Green Belt, equivalent certification, or proven experience in a Lean Six-Sigma environment highly desirable.
