Industrial Design - Engineering Group Head II in  GAC Savannah


Unique Skills:

We are seeking an accomplished Group Head of Industrial Design to lead the creative development of private aviation cabin experiences. This role is ideal for a design leader who combines strong aviation knowledge, exceptional design taste, and the ability to balance creativity, technical feasibility, and business objectives.

You will lead a team of talented industrial designers responsible for delivering world-class cabin environments—from early concept through production—while championing the customer experience and supporting company profitability.


Key Responsibilities

  • Lead, mentor, and inspire a team of industrial designers focused on luxury private aviation cabin interiors
  • Own and guide the concept phase, including customer insights, vision development, storytelling, sketching, mock-ups, and feasibility studies
  • Ensure design concepts balance innovation, manufacturability, certification requirements, cost, and schedule
  • Partner closely with engineering, manufacturing, certification, supply chain, and program management to deliver executable designs
  • Provide clear creative direction while allowing space for exploration and innovation
  • Advocate for best-in-class cabin design and customer experience, serving as the voice of the customer throughout development
  • Evaluate design trade-offs and make informed decisions that support company profitability and program success
  • Maintain high standards for aesthetic quality, craftsmanship, ergonomics, and materials
  • Foster a collaborative, team-oriented studio culture built on trust, respect, and shared ownership
  • Should have good knowledge of Solid Work, Adobe products and working knowledge of Catia. 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or a related design discipline (Master’s preferred)
  • 10+ years of industrial design experience, with leadership responsibilities
  • Demonstrated experience in aviation, transportation, luxury interiors, or complex engineered environments
  • Strong understanding of aircraft cabin design, including spatial constraints, passenger experience, and regulatory considerations
  • Proven ability to translate conceptual ideas into feasible, production-ready designs
  • Excellent sketching, visualization, and communication skills
  • Solid understanding of manufacturing processes, materials, and engineering directives
  • Experience balancing time, creativity, and deliverables across multiple programs


 

 

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree Engineering or related curriculum required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to perform the essential functions of the job. 13 years Engineering experience. 8 years specific technical discipline. Experience credit considered for related advanced degrees limited to 2 yrs with Masters and 4 yrs with PhD in field applicable to this job. 5 years supervisory or broad managerial responsibility.

Position Purpose:

Leads a multi-disciplined group of engineering employees with diverse skills. Utilizing creative and mature engineering judgment, manages complex engineering problems by directing subordinate employees. Determines program objectives and requirements, organizes and estimates work scope of programs and projects.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  1. Develops and administers organizational unit schedules, tasks, and deliverables, sets performance requirements, estimates work scopes, ensures quality of delivered product, and monitors budget performance.
  2. Manages directly, or through subordinates, employees that perform similar or related tasks; establishes performance expectations, conducts performance appraisals, salary management, and participates in development, training, and counseling of employees.
  3. Responsible for establishing and executing objectives that support both short and long term goals.
  4. Conducts briefings for senior level management and conducts technical meetings for internal/external contacts and customers.
  5. Acts as an advisor to subordinate supervisors or staff members to meet schedules and resolve complex technical or operational problems. .
  6. Directly participates in functional projects; must lead a cooperative effort among members of a project team.

Additional Functions:
  1. Interprets, executes, and recommends modifications to organizational policies. .

Perform other duties as assigned.

  2. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills and the ability to gain the cooperation of others.
