Hiring experienced Flight Sciences / Aircraft Performance engineers
Flight Sciences is responsible for the design and development of the Gulfstream Flight Control Laws and Automated Guidance Systems. These systems are complex in nature and are designed by a highly cross-functional team of exceptional engineers in the areas of Flight Controls, Testing, and Airplane System Modeling. We are seeking candidates with broad skillsets and various levels of experience to join our team of qualified, diverse individuals and work on one of the most challenging companies in aviation, from right here at our Savannah facility. This includes interaction with auto-throttles, maneuvering, and guidance. The candidate will work in the Flight Dynamics Group and ultimately be responsible for generating the set of control laws and state machines that will control the motion of the airplane. Candidate will also generate and codify the safe operating regimes and high-level safety algorithms for the airplane from the perspective of the airplane handling qualities.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Modeling (linear and non-linear) of aerodynamics and systems
- Design, implementation, experimentation, and optimization of fault tolerant control laws for vehicle level motion
- Stability, safety, and reliability analysis of vehicle motion control laws
- Interface with Systems Engineering, Flight Controls, Flight Operations, Mechanical Systems, Propulsion, and Test and Development teams
- Author, validate, and verify requirements for control law software design
Aircraft Performance group is responsible for all aspects of aircraft performance for the current fleet and new product development.
Other skills needed:
-Thorough understanding of fixed wing aerodynamics, propulsion, and performance.
-Solid understanding of airplane flight characteristics, first-principles analyses, and performance methods.
-Experience with transport category airplane certification projects (Part 25).
-Potential candidate for FAA Flight Analyst DER/AR desirable.
-Fortran and MATLAB experience highly desired.
-UNIX/Linux experience a plus.
Other responsibilities include:
-Use computer based tools to analyze airplane performance in specific phases of flight including takeoff, climb, descent, approach and landing, as well as overall mission analysis.
-Analyze flight test data in support of airplane performance database development.
-Prepare performance data for airplane flight manuals, operations manuals, and avionics software.
-Support coordination with aviation authorities (FAA, EASA, others) regarding compliance with performance regulations.
-Respond to inquiries from customers/operators relating to published performance data.
-Support new product development programs and fleet sustaining issues.
-Prepare performance data for new models, and derivatives of current models.
-Maintain current legacy computer analysis programs, and support development of modified and new software tools and methods.

- Contacts are primarily within the organization, with occasional customer contacts on routine issues.
- Works under general supervision for routine tasks of minor complexity.
- With supervision/mentorship, can coordinate the activities for lower level engineering staff.
