Airworthiness Certification Engineer TS III, CAO-TC Innovation Focal in GAC Savannah
Unique Skills:
The CAO-TC Innovation Focal supports early engagement activities with the FAA for new aircraft concepts and innovative technologies. Tasks include working with engineering and ODA EARs to develop regulatory gap analyses and prepare material (white papers, presentations, etc.) to support discussions with the authorities to develop a pathway to certification for new concepts and technologies. This position interfaces with Gulfstream’s preliminary design, advanced capabilities and requirements, advanced flight deck, and advanced aircraft systems organizations within IEF. This position is also the CAO point of contact with the FAA for these projects.
The CAO-TC Innovation Focal is responsible for coordinating regulatory reviews. This includes monitoring for newly published regulatory material, collecting, consolidating and submitting comments from IEF personnel on draft regulatory material, as well as providing notification within Gulfstream of newly published certification material.

- Reviews and approves group deliverables (certification plans, summary compliance reports, correspondence, noise data sheets, etc.) .
- Makes authoritative decisions and recommendations for problem solution through application of advanced technical principles, theories, and concepts in areas where engineering precedents are lacking.
- Is a recognized leader and an authority in multiple areas of certification; presents certification requirement recommendations to multi-disciplinary design teams and upper management .
- Researches and determines impact of NPRMs or potential changes to guidance material (industry or regulatory) to apply to future design development .
- Recommends strategy for group processes, tools, deliverables and responsibilities.
- Develop and present briefings on certification strategy, status to organization leadership and regulatory authorities, as assigned.
- Develops work methods and standard operating procedures for certification methods, processes, and tools. Recommend improvements to existing processes.
- Authors issue papers and assists in preparation of applicant response.
- Participates in industry conferences, working groups, and/or committees related to aviation certification as assigned.
- Utilizes delegated authorities under the GAC ODA (Engineering Authorized Representative, Alternate Administrator, etc.) as applicable.
- Participates in FCAA validation activities and reviews of deliverables as a SME.
- Broad expertise or unique specialized knowledge in certification.
- In-depth knowledge of FAA Orders 8110.4, 8100.15, and Gulfstream ODA Procedures Manual.
- Understands GAC safety system.
