This is a Lead Mechanical Design Engineering position in the Completions engineering group, responsible for VIP completions of large cabin Gulfstream business jets. Management responsibilities involve supervising the activities of a team of employees and contractors; conducting performance reviews, coordinating activities for assigned personnel, establishing and communicating clear performance expectations. Candidate will be responsible for reviewing models, drawings, analysis, and reports to ensure customer specifications are met. Individual must have sufficient experience and skills necessary to train and mentor others in aircraft interior design and to review the work of others for accuracy and quality.
Responsibilities of the group include new and derivative designs of interior furnishings and wire harnesses as part of outfitting new business jet aircraft. Example designs include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets and other storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. Additional responsibilities include managing interior weight, design for manufacturing, and controlling part and manufacturing costs.
Must have a working knowledge of Title 14 of the Code of Federal Regulations (14CFR – especially Chapter I, Part 25), as it pertains to Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regulation procedures and the STC process as it relates to certification of Aircraft Interiors.
Candidates should have working knowledge of AutoCAD and CATIA V5. Candidate must have strong project management skills and be able to work with various internal groups and external suppliers. Excellent time-management and communication skills (oral and written) are a must. This is a fast paced manufacturing environment where schedule and budget goals need to be met.
Assignments are executed under the direction of the Engineering Group Head or Manager to meet Engineering, Certification and manufacturing schedules. Analysis methods and design standards to be employed are consistent with company standards and accepted industry methods. - Maintains a current knowledge of developments and applications of technical principles, theories, and concepts in assigned field of expertise .
- The level of managerial skills and abilities appropriate for this grade may be established by each discipline.
- Assigned to problems of complex scope requiring creativity, foresight, problem solving skills, and analysis of a variety of factors.
- Faulty decisions could cause delays in schedules, and inefficient use of resources.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including strong interpersonal skills.
- Interacts frequently with subordinates or external/cross-functional contacts on exchange of technical information.
- Supports budget for assigned area.
- Has direct employee supervision responsibilities.
