Unique Skills:

This is a Tech Design Lead position in the Completions engineering group, which is responsible for VIP completions of new Gulfstream business jets.  The Completions group creates new and derivative designs of interior furnishings and amenities as part of outfitting new business jet aircraft.  Example designs include custom cabinetry such as galleys, lavatories, closets and other storage compartments, interior peripheries, water/waste systems, entertainment equipment installations, and seating installations. Additional responsibilities include managing interior weight, design for manufacturing, and controlling part and manufacturing costs.

 

Candidate will be responsible for reviewing models and drawings to ensure company standards are met.  Individual must have sufficient experience and skills necessary to train and mentor others in design and drafting and to review the work of others for accuracy and quality.

 

Significant experience with AutoCad and Catia V5 is required.  Experience with Smarteam or Enovia is preferred.  Excellent time-management and communication skills (oral and written) are a must.  This is a fast-paced manufacturing environment where schedule and budget goals need to be met.

 

Management responsibilities involve supervising the activities of a team of employees; conducting performance reviews, coordinating activities for assigned personnel, establishing and communicating clear performance expectations.

Assignments are executed under the direction of a senior engineer, Engineering Leads and the Engineering Group Head.  Additional responsibilities are outlined in the job description and as assigned.


 

 

Education and Experience Requirements

Associate's Degree or equivalent technical certificate in drafting, design, engineering, manufacturing required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 8 years experience in industry-related

designs and design

documentation. Extensive

knowledge of Mentor Graphics,

Oracle, Cadam, EDIS, and

general PC applications. 1 year supervisory or broad

managerial responsibility.

Position Purpose:

Applies knowledge of advanced design and drafting principles, guidelines, specifications, and standards to lead a team of Technical Designers in the creation of 3-D models, electronic meta-data, layouts, and drawings. Makes decisions independently on technical details of engineering problems and methods and works with Design Engineering staff to plan and coordinate work to meet department schedule goals.

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  1. Leads the activities of a group of Technical Designers and is responsible for the technical output of the group .
  2. Supervises the activities of a team of subordinate employees; administering performance reviews, coordinates activities for assigned personnel, establishes, and communicates clear performance expectations .
  3. Applies leadership skills, technical expertise and continuous quality improvement tools to reconcile differing opinions and requirements and participate in technical decision making .
  4. Applies diversified knowledge and experience of engineering principles in specific technical areas of assignments and related fields .
  5. Plans, develops, coordinates, and directs technical support for engineering tasks to ensure aircraft schedule and quality deliverables are met .
  6. Actively works to improve daily processes and ensures all work meets downstream customer requirements .
  7. Guides and trains others by communicating technical knowledge skills and processes .
  8. Has direct employee supervision responsibilities .

Additional Functions:
  1. Maintains a close working relationship with the Information Technology organization and software developers for purposes of developing new techniques, coding, enhancements and improvements relative to the computer-aided drawing systems as they pertain to Electronic Systems Applications .
  2. Primary support role and technical point-of-contact for all changes to electrical drawings as they pertain to the Applications .

  2. Requires the use of advanced techniques and practices of the specified field, related sciences and disciplines.

  4. Ability to work both independently and in a team environment.
  5. Interacts frequently with subordinates or external/cross-functional contacts on exchange of technical information.
  6. Supports budget for assigned area.
  7. Has direct employee supervision responsibilities.
