Unique Skills:

Must Be eligible for the DOD SkillBridge Program and remain eligible throughout the program

 
Must have 2 years experience in aviation, manufacturing, or electronics.

To be considered, candidates must be eligible for the DoD SkillBridge Program and meet all job-specific education and experience requirements. Preference will be given to those able to participate for at least 90 days, with a maximum of 180 days. Participants must be willing to work the assigned shift. Please note that military service members in a SkillBridge program are not eligible for wages or other benefits. To qualify, you must have 180 days or fewer remaining before your discharge date, have completed at least 180 consecutive days of active military service, obtain approval from your unit commander, and agree that participation may be terminated at any time by your service branch if mission requirements dictate.

 

  • Desired Skills

    • Intermediate experience (2-5 years) of one, or a combination of any, of the following -
      • Sheetmetal experience
        • Cutting, bending, forming, drilling
      • Aircraft inspection, maintenance, and repair
      • Machining
        • Plan, layout, setup, and operation machinery
      • Welding
        • Familiar with metallurgy, metal working, and welding processes/technology
      • Hydraulic installations/assembly experience.

     

    • Intermediate understanding of computer software.
    • Basic understanding of Solumina
    • Basic understanding of Catia/Smart Team
    • Test lab experience
    • Experience with calibration tools, gages, meters, instruments, and/or transducers.
  •  
  • Machinist II Skills
    • Under close supervision, perform planning, layout, setup, and operation of various conventional machinery. Assist and train junior level machinist.
      1. Sets up machines to perform operations, computes angular dimensions where required, locates and lays out reference lines, center points, and lines.
      2. Plans the sequence of operations to be performed.
      3. Determines the proper cutting tools required. to perform machining task.
      4. Selects the proper speed and feeds for conditions. .
      5. Performs complex machining tasks.
      6. Checks own work for conformance to specifications using precision measuring equipment.
      7. Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
      8. Assist and trains junior level machinist.
    • Sheetmetal Welder Skills
      • Performs a variety of metal joining processes and basic metal working tasks.
        1. Fabricate and install components as directed by supervisor.
        2. Remove, refurbish, modify and reinstall components as directed.
        3. Fabricate aircraft components as requested by appropriate department technicians or external customers.
        4. Research materials and processes as required. insuring compliance with pertinent ANSI, AWS, FAA, Gulfstream and/or Aircraft Manufacturer standards.
        5. Correctly complete required internal and FAA paperwork.
        6. Correctly use power and hand tools to cut, form, and otherwise prepare pieces for welding.
        7. Make effective use of the existing systems to enter labor against Work Orders, create picklists, purchase requisitions, review Work Orders, add items to Work Orders, and to sign off Work Orders.

    Perform other duties as assigned.

    Other Requirements:

    1. Must be familiar with the guidelines set forth by the American National Standards Institute (ANSI), the American Welding Society (AWS), and other pertinent process specifications.
    2. Basic math skills are required.
    3. Knowledge of metallurgy, metal working procedures, and welding processes and technology with regard to aircraft applications.
    4. Ability to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.


 

 

Education and Experience Requirements

High School Diploma or GED required. 2 years experience in aviation, manufacturing, or electronics.

Position Purpose:

Under limited to direct supervision perform operation activities in support of experimental, structural, and flammability testing. Operation activities could utilize skillsets related to sheet metal, instrumentation/electrical, fabrication, calibrations, hydraulic/pneumatics, large structural elements, test execution, etc.

Job Description

Principle Duties and Responsibilities:

Essential Functions:
  1. Utilizing various skills, assemble and maintain complex test lab fixture and equipment .
  2. Assemble, inspect, and repair complex test articles and specimens .
  3. Assist with test executions .
  4. Comply with safety rules and procedures. Use protective equipment as required. and be alert for unsafe conditions. Address unsafe conditions before putting people or property at risk .
  5. Show understanding of the experimental test process and internal lab SOPs and WMs .
  6. Shows basic knowledge in some systems and capabilities used throughout the lab .
  7. Communicate as required. to receive and understand work assignments. Sometimes coordinating directly with test engineering .
  8. Perform other duties as assigned .
  9. Provide status to their direct supervisor of progress or help needed on assigned projects .

Additional Functions:
  1. Ensure that all work accomplished meets quality standards and specifications .
  2. Follow standard operating procedures when operating company and lab equipment .
  3. Apply 6S and Lean Initiatives to keep shops, hangars, and aircraft work areas clean and uncluttered .
  4. Implement and apply Lean/continuous improvement processes to all areas of responsibility .
  5. Properly use and maintain Company-provided tools and equipment. Return items to designated storage area after use .

Perform other duties as assigned.

Other Requirements:
  1. Proficient in blueprint reading/interpretation and shop mathematics.
  2. Experience with basic hand tools.
  3. Experience with CAD packages and planning systems.
This job requires one to be able to read, write, speak, and understand the English language.
