Position Summary

The Mechanical Definition Engineer serves as a key member of the Completions Engineering organization, responsible for translating customer sales and program requirements into actionable engineering deliverables. This role ensures accurate communication, coordination, and execution of aircraft configuration requirements through the development of Build List packages, Completions Tasking and Scheduling (CTS) tasking creation, requirements tracking, and cross-functional collaboration. The Mechanical Definition Engineer acts as the primary interface between sales, engineering, and downstream operations teams to ensure aircraft modifications and completions activities are properly executed.

Key Responsibilities

• Translate customer sales requirements from the Spec and Interior Design Drawing (IDD), in conjunction with Baseline engineering inputs into actionable design engineering deliverables.
• Develop and maintain Preliminary Build Lists and Initial Build Lists for assigned aircraft programs.
• Create and manage preliminary aircraft tasking and engineering work packages.
• Coordinate with Design Engineering teams to ensure technical requirements are properly defined.
• Facilitate communication between Completions Engineering, Baseline Engineering, Configuration Management, and program leadership.
• Develop, maintain, and verify Requirements Verification Matrices (RVMs) to ensure requirement traceability and compliance.
• Generate CTS tasking required to support aircraft design activities.
• Participate in Preliminary Design Review (PDR), Engineering Design Review (EDR), Program Review (PR), and Definition Hand-Off meetings.
• Support aircraft configuration definition activities utilizing SmarTeam and associated engineering systems.
• Monitor engineering deliverables to ensure alignment with customer requirements, program schedules, and configuration baselines.
• Conduct root cause and corrective analysis investigations related to engineering definition discrepancies, build issues, and process deviations.
• Partner with Configuration Management teams to maintain product definition integrity throughout the aircraft lifecycle via Build List Change Request (BLCR) processing.
• Support continuous improvement initiatives related to engineering processes, tasking methodologies, and requirements management.
• Provide status updates and technical communication to engineering and leadership stakeholders.

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Engineering Technology, or related technical discipline.
• Experience supporting engineering, manufacturing, aircraft completions, or product definition activities.
• Working knowledge of engineering documentation and configuration management principles.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to manage multiple assignments in an engineering environment.
• Strong analytical and problem-solving capabilities.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite, including Excel, PowerPoint, and Teams.

Preferred Qualifications

• Experience within aircraft completions, aerospace, or aircraft modification programs.
• Knowledge of engineering change and configuration control processes.
• Experience developing or maintaining build lists and aircraft configuration documentation.
• Familiarity with requirements management and verification methodologies.
• Experience supporting cross-functional engineering reviews and program milestones.
• Understanding of root cause and corrective action processes.

Education and Experience Requirements

Bachelor's Degree in engineering or technical related curriculum applicable to the respective job position required or equivalent combination of education and experience sufficient to successfully perform the essential functions of the job. 10 yrs in specific technical discipline or 15 yrs broad eng experience in several technical disciplines. Experience credit considered for related adv degrees limited to 2 yrs for Masters and 4 yrs for PhD in fields applicable to this job.

Other Requirements:

1. Advanced degree in engineering, or related curriculum preferred.
2. The level of technical skill and abilities appropriate for this grade will be established by each discipline.
